Barstool Sportsbook opens in 7th State, New Jersey

Since the repeal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act in 2018, New Jersey has become the sports betting capital of the United States. New Jersey is full of top operators including DraftKings, FanDuel, and Caesars Sportsbook.

Operators continue to be added to the state market, and Barstool Sportsbook is the latest to join New Jersey. New Jersey marks the seventh state for Barstool with plans to continue growing in the future.

Launch details

Barstool Sportsbook was quietly launched in New Jersey, but the bookmaker has been booming since it went live. The bar stool, which is owned by Penn National, is the 19e online platform in the state.

Penn National has partnered with Freehold Raceway to secure market access for Barstool Sportsbook. This is because Freehold is jointly owned by Penn National and Greenwood Racing, which simplifies the licensing process.

Barstool Sportsbook is now available through a mobile app and a web browser. However, the bookmaker is currently in a phased launch phase, so only 500 people can use the platform. The company wanted to test the product before the football season when a full launch is made.

The official launch during the football season will be accompanied by more marketing efforts. Barstool is expected to be a competitive platform in the state when officially launched. Penn National has succeeded in developing sports betting through the Barstool brand.

Dave Portnoy’s media superstars are rife throughout the app. Barstool Sports also advertises the app through their shows and blogs, which has attracted younger gamblers.

New Jersey is the third state where Barstool Sportsbook launched this month. The other two states were Colorado and Virginia.

Other locations for Barstool Sportsbook

The NFL season is the main betting period on the calendar, and Penn National has two other states to target ahead of kickoff. Penn National aims to settle in Tennessee and Arizona before September 9, when the Buccaneers host the Cowboys.

As Tennessee does not require attached licenses, Penn National did not have to partner with a landlocked casino. Barstool gained access to the Arizona market through an agreement with Phoenix Raceway.

There is a chance that Penn National will have a hard time getting into TN by football season. The Tennessee Education Lottery did not approve sports betting and the group met on Wednesday.

TEL will regulate more sports betting before the end of 2021. Nonetheless, Barstool is in a difficult situation as their next meeting is not scheduled until November 16. It’s almost bowl season for FBS and the second half of the NFL campaign.

A special meeting can be scheduled before the football season. This is possible if there is enough interest among sports betting for a September 9 launch, but there is no current plan.

In the future, Penn National will seek to relocate to New York. The New Jersey launch is expected to attract New York punters when the site launches in the state. Penn National is one of six nominations under consideration in New York City. The future is bright for Barstool Sportsbook.
