Residents of Burlington County can now receive alerts on new job openings, job fairs and other career opportunities right on their cell phones.

The Burlington County Workforce Development Board launched the new Engage by Cell program as a pilot this summer with a small cohort of job seekers, but the office is now ready to expand the program to any resident who wishes to enroll, according to information provided by the county.

Those who do will receive SMS alerts on job postings and upcoming job fairs or training programs. They will also receive periodic career preparation tips and a link to the Workforce Development mobile site.

Burlington County Commissioner Felicia Hopson said the program is another free service created by the county to try to help unemployed residents connect with companies that are hiring or have specific needs in workforce.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has created incredible strains on all of us, but especially on small businesses and we are well aware that they continue to be under intense stress, especially with the ever-recovering labor market.” Hopson said in the statement. “This is a national problem, but we are seeing the impacts locally. While there is no magic wand to fix the problem, our board is excited about this new program and others run by Workforce Development to help connect companies with those who remain unemployed. or underemployed. This is the kind of proactive and creative initiative that has become a hallmark of our county and our response to the pandemic and its economic fallout. “

Hopson announced the expansion of the Engage by Cell program this week during a presentation at the Southern New Jersey Chamber of Commerce Regional Economic Outlook Breakfast Forum.

During his remarks, Hopson also highlighted Skill Up NJ, a partnership between the New Jersey Department of Labor and the county to provide residents with free access to online job training and certification courses and assessments of career.

The program is one of many services offered by the Burlington County American Job Center, which provides free assistance to job seekers for a variety of professional and employment-related needs.

More than 8,500 Burlington County residents received Job Center services in 2020 and 2021 via online digital platforms and programs and in-person appointments, and Workforce Development leaders are ready to help even more next month after the end of extended unemployment benefits from the federal government. , according to the press release.

Hopson said the services provided by the Job Center and the county’s workforce development teams are essential for the region’s economic recovery.

“It is not enough to simply connect unemployed residents with hiring companies. We are also taking steps to ensure these workers have the skills and training our businesses need, ”Hopson said in the statement.
