Washingtonians are captivated by the Washington Nationals’ new cherry blossom-themed City Edition uniforms. So much so that, in fact, they bought enough to break some MLB jersey sales records.

According to a press release from the Nationals, retailing Cherry Blossom Yarns now represents “MLB Shop’s best first hour of sales for any City Connect team launch.” It also represents the highest Day 1 sales for a City Connect shirt, “breaking the previous record by +58%”.

The unveiling of the new uniforms didn’t come without its fair share of flair, as legendary Budweiser Clydesdale horses made a special delivery of the new duds to the Nats team store adjacent to Nationals Park at Navy Yard.

Delivery day last Wednesday was the biggest selling day in the team store since the 2019 playoffs, when Washington beat Houston in the World Series.

The Washington Wizards have joined the Nationals in their release of cherry blossom-themed jerseys, though their flashy pink yarns won’t debut or go on sale until the 2022-23 NBA season.

This joint effort is the first time in history that an NBA and MLB team from the same market have collaborated on City Edition uniforms.

Various players from both teams, including Kyle Kuzma and Juan Soto, took part in the DC-themed jersey media release. Nats reliever Sean Doolittle essentially captured the public reaction to the jerseys with his cheerful expression when he first saw them.

Nationals fans can purchase the “Cherry Blossom” jerseys exclusively at the Nationals Team Store, and from March 30 through April 4 before heading to Nike online and selecting points. on sale April 5, and full online and in-store distribution April 10,” according to the press release.
