Thieves target Walmarts in PA, NJ, Del. as part of the East Coast Crime Series – NBC10 Philadelphia
Cashiers beware: Authorities say thieves are targeting a major East Coast retailer, including the Philadelphia area.
Police told NBC10 the couple targeted Walmart stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. Recently, they targeted Walmarts in suburban Philadelphia.
Police say the men pretend to be regular customers, but when the cash drawer opens they knock, pretending to be armed.
On Wednesday night, two men robbed cashiers at a Bensalem Walmart just off Lincoln Highway. Police said the same store was also targeted in mid-May.
The Warminster Township Police Department, meanwhile, said it happened on Wednesday at a Walmart just off Street Road. They believe it’s the same duo.
One of the men wore a hoodie with the words “I didn’t” on several robberies, police said. According to police, they used the same getaway vehicle in each heist: a black Lexus ES 250.
Thieves also hit Walmarts in Oxford, Pennsylvania; Deptford and Burlington, New Jersey; New Castle, Delaware; and Aberdeen, Maryland, according to police.
“No retailer is immune to the challenge of crime, and we recognize its impact at the highest levels of our business,” Walmart said in a statement to NBC10. “We are aware of the crimes occurring in several states along the Eastern Seaboard and will continue to work with local and state law enforcement to help bring these criminals to justice.”
